JAY-Z's 40/40 = 0

So, like most who venture out to Vegas I just had to step foot in the new 40/40 Club. Running off the image of Jay-Z's suave and impeccable taste, along with it being just 3 months old, I figured this club is gonna be LIKE DAT!. Boy oh Boy was I wrong! If I was Jay-Z I'd unhook my wagon from this dead horse and quick! Not only is it dingy and dirty, but the clientelle left little to be desired... If I wanted to party with Oakland's and LA's finest -- and yall know what I mean-- I would of went to one of the lesser known local establishments in the city. Let me run down my experience:
Called the spot earlier to get our names on the list which was successful. We were told that everyone was free before 11 however the list insured no waiting in line. We arrived at approx 10:45 to a line of Trina and Lil Kim lookalikes, I asked my best friend who lives in Vegas to go and see where the guest list line was and she was told "There aint no line, it aint no free b4 11, and the cover is $20" ..... irritated we got in line figuring ok typical club -ish nothin really new about this...Get to the front of the line and pay our $20, my cuz needed to charge her cover and was directed to a window where the chick repeated swiped her card then told my cuz her card was denied and she needed to go to an ATM.....My cuz was like "ummmm no its not and I'm looking at the totals adding up on your screen"..... she called her bank later to dispute charges.

Avoiding the ATM we walked into the club... dark, dirty, dreary, drab... what kind of bait-and-switch game is 40/40 trying to pull?!....a far cry from the flynest I was expecting or that is shown on its website. We cased the joint, w/me still tryin to hold out hope that something will impress me....that this club would live up to its hype.... NOT!

As we made our way to the bar (to give us something to do b/c we were bored) I was shocked by the lack of a dress code... I've never been to a club of such "supposed" status and the dress code wasn't strictly enforced. How is it that the Lucky Strike Bowling Lanes has a stricter dress code then Jay-Z's establishment?! I saw people wearing jeans, t-shirts, backpacks, sweats, etc and these were chicks! My cuz made the statement "Damn had I known there was no dress code I wouldn't of made an effort". Both male and female did their best to either looks as unkempt as possible, as pimp as possible, and as whoreish as possible.

We sit, I order a drink.. my usual (vodka gimlet straight-up) and handed my card to the bartendar when he tells me that there is a $30 minimum.... A WHAT?! So I order a drink for my friend (long island)... total came up to $28.. I told him to charge it and I'll over compensate on the tip (as usual).... however, what was on the bill was not $28 or even $30 but $36, a 20% tip automatically added by the clubs registers! The nerve! How wack is that to take tip off the top, what if the service was bad.... what if I had plans to leave a fat tip? Big Brother hovered over the bar in a suit and an earpiece carefully micro-managing the waitstaff...making sure they aren't too accommodating to the customers.... not only can they not comp drinks, give shots to customers regardless of how much they've spent, but they are also charged if they break a glass. HOV---- check your club man! After our drink and a very short 2-step we realized the club was wack, the total experience was a disappointment, and that we would never patronize another 40/40 Club period and we left.. but not before the brawl that led to a bloody nose customer being escorted out...HOV---check your club man! Now am I being to hard on the spot? I say no... This club carries the name of Jay-Z and with that goes the image, prestige, class, and presence, all of which Hov claims to exude. With this ideal comes the responsibility of the brand (40/40) to live up to that expectation. All I know is if Hov's hotels are going to be anything like his clubs then welcome to Motel 6.Click here to read another similar review about the club
